The Application of Buddhist Ethics for Business Management: A Case Study of Fairyland Department Store, Nakhon Sawan Province 2011

Abstract

The objectives of this thesis were: 1) to study the  principle for business management, 2) to study the Buddhist ethics for the business management appeared in the Buddhist texts, and 3) to study the application of the Buddhist ethics for the business management: a case study of Fairyland Department Store, Nakhon Sawan Province

This research applied the documentary research with collecting data from Tipitaka, academic textbooks, related documents and researches an Analysis of the data was used in the analysis of the content and the summary of the research was used in presenting the descriptive results of the research.

Results of the Research

1)  The business management should have the principle for the business management. The ethical principle in running business was to live together make people in  society, especially, the business circles can be applied  for the business management.  The success of the business gave consideration to the profit and the people relating the business. Moreover, they had the appropriate quantity no more or less than such as problems about taking advantage, problems about the effect of employers and employees and environmental problems etc. It is necessary to have the ethics for the business management.

2)  The  Buddhist  ethics for the business management appeared in the Buddhist texts as the Primary stage is: Pancasila and Pancadhamma, the intermediate stage is: Kusalakammapatha and the advanced stage is: Ariyamagga. The business developmental principles of business  are the four Ditthadhammikattha, the four Bhogavibhaga-dhamma, the four Gihisukha, the four Sangahavatthu, the four Kulaciratthiti-dhamma, the three Papanika-dhamma and the seven Ariya-dhana. The prohibitions on the business management are: the six Apayamukha and the five Micchavanijja etc.

3) Fairyland department store applied the Buddhist ethics to the business management with using the principles of the personnel management from the Buddhist ethics such as abstaining the causes of ruin and the trades which should not be piled by a lay disciple and promoted actions according to the Buddhacariya. They made employees love the organization. Meanwhile, the employees served the customers with the honesty and without taking advantage. In the situation of  economic changes, the company sustained society  by  positive help such  as  preserving  environment  and  providing  Dhamma  practicing  course  for general  people which  were regarded  as a returning  profit  to society.
